"I Love MY Island" has become the motto for residents of Merritt Island, an unincorporated barrier island between the Indian and Banana rivers. Residents enjoy the best of both worlds with a multitude of ways to enjoy nature as well as retail and restaurant venues, from the most popular chains to local eateries. Along the Banana River to the east are jet ski rentals and waterfront dining. There are also many parks in which to enjoy the outdoors, and kayaking is a popular local sport. From the island you can get amazing views of rocket launches, as well as enjoy the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, a 140,000-acre nature sanctuary. Merritt Island is home to the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex, where you can meet an astronaut, enjoy the the Shuttle Launch Experience and explore interactive displays. Known as the largest island in Florida, Merritt Island has an array of neighborhoods in all price points, along the two rivers and everywhere inbetween, offering something for everyone.
